Who I Am
The Engineer Behind the Projects
My name’s Dan.
I’m a Product Design graduate from Manchester Metropolitan University, and I enjoy solving practical engineering problems.
Whether it’s designing a new mechanism, recreating an obsolete component or simplifying how something is manufactured, I enjoy understanding how things work and finding better ways to build them.
This library is a collection of those projects.

What I Actually Do
Most of my work revolves around turning ideas and engineering problems into manufacturable solutions.
That might involve reverse-engineering an existing component, designing a new assembly, producing technical drawings for fabrication, creating rapid prototypes, or developing fixtures that make manufacturing more repeatable. Every project is approached with the same mindset. Understand the problem first, then design the simplest solution that can be built reliably.

Why This Library Exists
Rather than keeping my work hidden away in folders, I wanted to create a place where I could document the projects I’ve worked on and the thinking behind them.
This isn’t just a portfolio of finished CAD models. It’s an evolving engineering library that records design decisions, manufacturing considerations and practical problem solving. Some projects are complete products, others are prototypes, experiments or small improvements, but each one taught me something worth documenting.

How I Think About a Project
Every project starts with understanding the problem, not opening CAD.
01
Understand the problem
02
Identify the constraints
03
Consider how it'll actually be manufactured
04
Simplify wherever possible
05
Produce manufacturing-ready CAD
06
Prototype where it makes sense to
07
Refine based on how the prototype behaves

Where the Work Tends to Focus
01
Reverse Engineering
Recreating existing components, modernising worn or obsolete parts, and producing clean, manufacturable CAD ready for production or prototyping.
02
Product Development
Designing practical products and mechanisms with a strong focus on usability, manufacturability and solving real-world problems.
03
Manufacturing Improvements
Developing fixtures, tooling, machine modifications and production aids that improve efficiency, consistency and safety on the workshop floor.
04
Prototyping & Fabrication
Designing components for 3D printing, laser cutting, sheet metal and welded fabrication, with manufacturing considered from the very beginning.
